blind spot

Abstract art. Nothing quite like it is there? A couple of weeks ago in one of my classes we were instructed to bring in mark making instruments of any kind – charcoal, black and white paint, markers etc- as well as a heavy-weight substraight to support it like bristol.
My professor, who happens to be one of those walking dictionary types with intelligence you cannot help but be astounded by, instructed that he would name an emotional state and we would have 90 seconds to create some sort of abstract visual depiction of it (see one of mine above).
While a huge part of me revelled in the fact that I could feel like a five year old and dip my fingers in paint, another part of me was almost dumb-founded at the challenge of it all. Later on these abstract visuals were related to a field of scientific study for which we are now creating identities for. It’s one of the most interesting assignments and it has fully renewed my love of expressionist art. Check out these works by photographer/graphic designer Jonas Lindström from his series entitled ‘Blind Spot’.
